A family of master shoemakers in Corridonia, Italy — the same workshop responsible for our sneakers — made this loafer after repeated requests from the community. The upper is a supple Italian calfskin with a clean, tight grain, lined in a purpose-sourced light tan calfskin that sits flush against the foot. Full-grain leather soles anchor the build, all connected through sacchetto construction — a bag-stitched method that wraps one continuous piece of lining beneath your foot for comfort and flexibility other approaches cannot touch. No braiding, no heel tab. Just well-made Italian shoes. Ships to Canada.
##Handcrafted in Italy
Located in Corridonia, Italy is a small family owned and operated atelier that has been making exceptional footwear with a focus on quality and construction since 1905. Excellence in shoemaking has been an obsession and never-ending quest that has spanned three generations of this family. As skills are passed from generation to generation there is an insistence to remain in-touch with developments in technology to ensure that both worlds, old and new are always respected in order to achieve the highest quality, most comfortable and longest lasting purpose built shoes. Currently led by the granddaughter of the founder, it was clear from our first interaction that this team of masters fully understood our raison d'etre at Archibald and relished an opportunity to work with us and allow more people to experience the difference their expertise and craft can make in terms of end-product.
##A uniquely soft yet durable Italian calfskin forms the upper, which is wrapped into a bag-like structure to form the ultra-comfortable Sacchetto construction.
The combination promises a unique blend of comfort, protection, and longevity from the moment you wear them. The softer leather acclimates to your foot almost immediately yet still maintains its shape and works with the sacchetto construction to ensure ultra-comfort. Rather than using the standard technique of wrapping the upper around a rigid insole – the Sacchetto shoe construction (one of the noble constructions) involves stitching the upper to a supple piece of lining to form a ‘sock-like’ sack – to finish it off, the sole is then stitched on. This gives the shoe a softness and flexibility that is difficult to match, making it ideal to be worn for long hours throughout the day.
