The search for excellence
Expertise is specific. So is the search for it.
We travel the globe in search of true artisans, the men and women who dedicate their lives to their craft. We build personal relationships and ensure the people we work with are as just as committed to excellence as we are. This communal approach allows us to ensure integrity and supply only the best products. By doing so, we reinvigorate neglected pockets of creative excellence, maintain the finest methods of production and reintroduce genuine quality to the world.
Quality as a process
Quality begins long before the finished object.
It is not one dramatic final inspection. It is a sequence of decisions that begins with material and continues through use.

Set the construction, proportions, fit and finish before production begins.

Make, assess and revise until the object behaves as intended.

Commission the specialist process from the workshop equipped to do it properly.

Inspect the result and take responsibility when it is not good enough.

Give the customer the information needed to maintain, repair and keep the object in use.

Every aspect of what we do relies on people, from the craftsmen we work with, right through to our customers. We break down barriers between the designer, the maker and the customer because we believe in transparency. Our approach means we can circumvent the practices of traditional retail, which result in excessive markups and illusions of value. We simply make the best products at an open, honest price, without compromising on quality.

Our model does more than deliver well made products. Everything we sell is made to last, and we stick to timeless pieces that will never go out of style. We are committed to sustainability and ethical practices in an age where race-to-the-bottom labour and mass production have led to a human rights crisis and production of the most wasteful, cheaply made goods ever. Archibald stands for more than profit. We seek to enrich the lives of our craftsmen, our employees and our customers.

Small batches keep the relationship between specification, making and inspection close enough to remain visible.
Longevity then depends on more than the moment of sale: appropriate materials, sound construction, maintenance, repair where possible and clear care. The aim is not an abstract promise. It is an object worth keeping, supported with the information required to do so.
