Design Note

Our take on an increasingly popular style. The secret to getting this pair to the level we wanted lay in a deep study to find the perfect, most buttery-soft suede to bring this unstructured style to life. Countless samples later, we were finally able to put together a pair that provided the right, cooling, almost naked effect without sacrificing form nor function. The silhouette is easy enough to do - with the right, luxurious suede in the hands of the right craftsmen (in our case, our family of traditional specialist shoemaker in Corridonia, Italy) - you have a result that is extremely difficult to achieve. The loafers feature an Italian Margom rubber sole shaped with a heel and a full-grain leather floorboard, keeping in line with our no compromise approach to create the very best basics. Please note that the product images are either rendered or shot with white light so it can look slightly different in real life.

If your purchase is not exactly what you are looking for, you have 28 days from receiving your order to exchange or return and send your items back to us as long as you have not requested any alterations or special customizations.

However all made-to-order items or those ordered as part of the backed-by-you service, and products made of special materials such as Vicuna or Shell Cordovan are final sales and cannot be returned, safe for the rare occurrence that the item is defective in some way.

In the case a return is required due to size or simply because the product is not to your liking, however, we do offer a service where we can make the item orderable for another customer and sell it forward for you providing it is kept in pristine condition.

Located in Corridonia, Italy is a small family owned and operated atelier that has been making exceptional footwear with a focus on quality and construction since 1905. Excellence in shoemaking has been an obsession and never-ending quest that has spanned three generations of this family. As skills are passed from generation to generation there is an insistence to remain in-touch with developments in technology to ensure that both worlds, old and new are always respected in order to achieve the highest quality, most comfortable and longest lasting purpose built shoes. Currently led by the granddaughter of the founder, it was clear from our first interaction that this team of masters fully understood our raison d'etre at Archibald and relished an opportunity to work with us and allow more people to experience the difference their expertise and craft can make in terms of end-product.

With that in mind, a buttery soft, very special, unlined Italian Suede has been sourced especially for these loafers. This particular suede, sourced from an infamous tannery in Montegranaro, Italy makes all the difference. The search for the right skin to realise the feel we wanted for these loafers was a long, arduous affair and facilitated by a little birdy who pointed us to a supplier of perhaps Italy's most desired high-luxury house. The unlined suede upper promises a unique blend of comfort, protection, and longevity from the moment you wear them. It is almost cooling in a way difficult to describe as the softer leather acclimates to your foot almost immediately and provides an unparalleled level of comfort and quality that one would expect from an elevated classic such as this. The Italian-made Margom soles provide durable, light-footed wear, and the full-grain leather floorboard provides a strong base and foundation to ensure the upper can be in full use for as long as possible.
