The Goodyear-LV SF-01 Sneakers in Horween Chromexcel
Our take on the forever sneaker.
Inspired by dress shoes yet built for everyday wear, the v5 features a modified Goodyear construction adapted specifically for sneakers. This allows the shoe to be re-soled when needed, extending its life well beyond conventional cup-sole designs while protecting the upper.
The uppers are crafted from Horween Chromexcel, a combination-tanned leather prized for its durability, flexibility, and rich pull-up character. Softer and more immediately comfortable than more rigid leathers, Chromexcel breaks in quickly and develops depth and patina with wear. Each pair is hand-cut and stitched in Corridonia, Italy, and finished with a full-grain leather floorboard for structure and longevity.
For the v5, we’ve paired this construction with a French-made Lactae Hevea sole, chosen for its exceptional comfort, lightness, and natural flexibility. The result is a sneaker designed to be worn often, repaired when needed, and enjoyed for years to come. And to help with the timeline, each pair is delivered with an extra pair of soles.

##Handcrafted in Italy
Located in Corridonia, Italy is a small family owned and operated atelier that has been making exceptional footwear with a focus on quality and construction since 1905. Excellence in shoemaking has been an obsession and never-ending quest that has spanned three generations of this family. As skills are passed from generation to generation there is an insistence to remain in-touch with developments in technology to ensure that both worlds, old and new are always respected in order to achieve the highest quality, most comfortable and longest lasting purpose built shoes. Currently led by the granddaughter of the founder, it was clear from our first interaction that this team of masters fully understood our raison d'etre at Archibald and relished an opportunity to work with us and allow more people to experience the difference their expertise and craft can make in terms of end-product.
##Chromexcel (CXL) is a combination tanned leather from the fabled Horween tannery that undergoes at least 89 separate processes taking 28 working days and utilizing all 5 floors of their facility.
Located in Chicago since it was founded in 1905, the Horween Leather Company is one of the oldest running tanneries in the USA. Specific and proprietary mixes of bark extracts and natural agents are used to give Chromexcel, its heavy vegetable retannage (this is what makes it so special). The benefit of combination tanning comes from the specific attributes that both chrome and vegetable tanning impart. Generally, chrome tanned leathers yield soft, supple, and durable leathers, while vegetable tanned leathers are round and full feeling, patina well, and are easy to coax into shapes using heat and moisture.
