Handcrafted in Limoges, France
Limoges has a long and proud history of enamel production that goes back as far as the 12th century. It was only after local repositories of kaolin were discovered in the late 18th century that the hard-paste porcelain industry as we know it took off. Today, it’s rather easy to find porcelain claiming to be from Limoges, and hard to find the genuine thing. Situated in the heart of Limoges, our workshop draws on the region’s centuries long knowledge of hard-paste porcelain to create and design pieces fit for the 21st Century. It’s proud to honour the traditional processes required to make fine porcelain, designed to a modern aesthetic to ensure the industry thrives well into the future.
##Porcelain is not naturally found or quarried- it’s a man made ‘dough’ that needs to be mixed by practised hands for the right outcome.
The right amount of kaolin, quartz and feldspar must be combined for a paste that’s the perfect consistency for firing, and for one that abides by strictly enforced regulations that ensure lesser pastes cannot classify as genuine porcelain.
##Each workshop or factory in Limoges has its own specific production process for signature porcelain pieces, and ours is no different.
The artisans we work with to produce our pieces are known for perfecting the slow firing process, a crucial element in setting the porcelain. It’s desperately tricky to get right and when done incorrectly, pieces are brittle and unlikely to last as long as they should.
