##Handcrafted in Italy Located in Corridonia, Italy is a small family owned and operated atelier that has been making exceptional footwear with a focus on quality and construction since 1905. Excellence in shoemaking has been an obsession and never-ending quest that has spanned three generations of this family. As skills are passed from generation to generation there is an insistence to remain in-touch with developments in technology to ensure that both worlds, old and new are always respected in order to achieve the highest quality, most comfortable and longest lasting purpose built shoes. Currently led by the granddaughter of the founder, it was clear from our first interaction that this team of masters fully understood our raison d'etre at Archibald and relished an opportunity to work with us and allow more people to experience the difference their expertise and craft can make in terms of end-product.

##A supremely soft, specialist purpose-fit locally sourced Italian calfskin and vegetable-tanned suede are used together to form the unlined upper which is then stitched to a Lactae Hevea sole. The calfskin promises a unique blend of comfort, protection and longevity from the moment you wear them. The softer, unlined leather acclimates to your foot almost immediately and provides an unparalleled level of comfort and quality that one would expect from a multipurpose utility sneaker such as this. The French-made Lactae Hevea soles are outstandingly comfortable thanks to the microstructure of tiny air bubbles that form as the sole is made from the virgin hevea milk - a subtle alchemy of tradition and modernity.

Camel — a warm, golden-brown that nods to the GAT's military origins while feeling thoroughly modern. The warm camel tone paired with the classic gum sole creates an earthy, tonal combination that ages beautifully.

The German Army Trainer — or GAT — is one of the most storied silhouettes in sneaker history. Ours is, one might say quite oddly, handmade in Corridonia, Italy. But then, whilst who makes the superior sports car is still a debate, the Germans will always concede that the Italians do shoes better. The GAT's origins span feuding brothers (who went on to found Adidas and Puma), a lucrative Bundeswehr contract, and a 1970s revival by Belgian designer Martin Margiela. The Archibald version is built on a Margom sole, cut from Italian calfskin, and hand-stitched by a family-run atelier — then offered at a price that makes the whole thing feel slightly unfair to everyone else.
