Japanese cotton jersey built from the yarn up — Minami develops its own yarn, knit, dye and finish, so the quality lives in the cloth itself.
What it is
Not all cotton jersey is equal, and the difference is decided long before the cloth is knitted — in the yarn. Most T-shirt fabric is bought in as a finished commodity, knitted from generic yarn to hit a price. Minami works the other way round: it develops its own original yarns first, then chooses the machines that knit them and works out its own dyeing and finishing. That yarn-up control is what separates a Minami cloth from an ordinary tee.
Why we chose it
Minami is partial to natural fibres, and almost everything it makes is knitted and finished in Japan to old and exacting standards. The pay-off is character you can feel: cloth with a distinct hand and weight, colour developed in-house, and the honesty of fabric made by people who care how it wears and washes years on.
For our Richard James collaboration T-shirts we use Minami's 100% Japanese cotton in two weights — a lighter cloth for summer, and a heavier, vintage-style jersey spun from thick-count open-end yarn for a dry, crisp "shari" hand and a full, bulky feel.
