#Handcrafted in Italy Located in Montegranaro, Italy is a small family owned and operated atelier that has been making exceptional footwear with a focus on quality and construction since 1905. Excellence in shoemaking has been an obsession and never-ending quest that has spanned three generations of this family. As skills are passed from generation to generation there is an insistence to remain in-touch with developments in technology to ensure that both worlds, old and new are always respected in order to achieve the highest quality, most comfortable and longest lasting purpose built shoes. Currently led by the granddaughter of the founder, it was clear from our first interaction that this team of masters fully understood our raison d'etre at Archibald and relished an opportunity to work with us and allow more people to experience the difference their expertise and craft can make in terms of end-product.

Craftsmanship

##Chromexcel (CXL) is a combination tanned leather from the fabled Horween tannery that undergoes at least 89 separate processes taking 28 working days and utilizing all 5 floors of their facility. Located in Chicago since it was founded in 1905, the Horween Leather Company is one of the oldest running tanneries in the USA. Specific and proprietary mixes of bark extracts and natural agents are used to give Chromexcel, its heavy vegetable retannage (this is what makes it so special). The benefit of combination tanning comes from the specific attributes that both chrome and vegetable tanning impart. Generally, chrome tanned leathers yield soft, supple, and durable leathers, while vegetable tanned leathers are round and full feeling, patina well, and are easy to coax into shapes using heat and moisture.

The ultimate sneaker they said... that was the objective. We thought we had done it with the SF-01 v3, and in some ways, we might have. But if we are speaking of the next level of a product here - then there was one step left to go: the forever sneaker.

Attempted by many, never quite perfected - a sneaker inspired by dress shoes, complete with a construction that allows it to be re-soled and allows for the upper to remain useful far beyond the Margom cup sole which cushions it. The forever sneaker also needed an upper made of something special; something with the kind of character that only deepens with time. Enter Horween Chromexcel - a combination-tanned leather from the fabled Horween tannery in Chicago, where each hide undergoes 89 separate processes over 28 working days, emerging with a pull-up finish that develops a rich, living patina the longer it is worn.

After months of research and exploration, we found our answers in a small workshop in Corridonia, Italy, in the Marche region - where a master artisan has developed an aesthetically pleasing Goodyear construction for sneakers that has allowed us to make it real. What this means is that the construction follows modified patterns of the famed Goodyear method so that the upper is attached in a way that protects it and removes the need for glue when attaching the sole, which can be changed when required. The uppers are hand-cut and stitched by a family-owned atelier that has been crafting exceptional footwear since 1905, before being set on a springy Margom cup sole with a full-grain leather floorboard.

This special limited edition pair comes with one added set of coloured Margom cup-soles included - so that when they are ready to be re-soled, the soles are ready, and most able cobblers will be able to complete the process with ease.
