In the leather world, suede is often underestimated. High-quality suede is actually difficult to produce consistently because of multiple factors that must be considered: the nap must be extremely uniform, color penetration must be even throughout the hide, the leather must remain supple without becoming floppy, the surface must resist excessive shedding and marking, and production runs must match from batch to batch. Opera became known for solving these problems at scale.

Many tanneries produce suede as a side category, but Opera has effectively built its identity around suede. Premium split suedes and reversed leathers. Every rough skin is selected and pre-graded before tanning begins, ensuring every lot arrives already uniform in character. Rather than mask the leather with a sprayed or pigmented finish, Opera develops its color deep within the fibre, so the suede retains an open, even nap and a soft, yielding hand that acclimatizes to wear almost immediately. This is leather finished from the flesh side and buffed to raise the other. Done cheaply, the suede would feel fuzzy and flat. But done well, it has a fine, dense, almost matte pile with genuine depth of colour.
