Lanificio Colombo

Individual partner

Lanificio Colombo

A Valsesia cashmere house that runs the whole chain — fibre to finished cloth — and one of the world's largest makers of cashmere and noble-fibre fabric.

Place
Borgosesia, Italy

Why we chose them

Lanificio Luigi Colombo was founded in Borgosesia, in the Valsesia valley of Piedmont, in 1967 — the work of Luigi Colombo, an artist and traveller who built the house around the rarest fibres from the very start. Today, led by his son Roberto, it is one of the world's largest producers of cashmere and noble-fibre fabric, and one of the few that controls every stage itself: fibre selection, dyeing, spinning, weaving, finishing and, increasingly, the finished garment — all across its two historic Italian plants at Borgosesia and Ghemme.

What sets Colombo apart is the breadth and rarity of what it works — not only cashmere, but kid cashmere, vicuña, guanaco, yangir, kid wool and camel — and the fact that it keeps the whole chain in-house, so the quality and traceability of the fibre are controlled from the goat to the cloth. That vertical control is the reason a Colombo cloth feels the way it does.

For the Archibald x Colombo throws and cushion we went to Colombo for the cashmere itself — woven and finished by the same house that selects and spins the fibre, so the cloth has the weight, drape and softness only a fully integrated cashmere mill can give.
