Why we chose them
The Paccapelo family have been in Montegranaro, in the Fermo footwear district, since 1909 — long enough to have started in agriculture and machinery before moving, after the war, into the shoe trade. Three generations on, their leather division is a specialist in the skins most tanneries don't bother with: kangaroo, deer, camel, even eel, sourced and finished for footwear, leather goods and clothing, and shipped to makers in Brazil, Mexico, China and India. We came to them for kangaroo. They offer it in two characters — a glazed article with real depth and shine that re-polishes beautifully, and a chrome-tanned sport article built for the stresses of an athletic upper. Both give us the thing kangaroo is prized for above all: enormous strength from a very thin, very light skin. It is a niche material, from a house that has made a point of keeping the niche alive.
