Why we chose them
Raccagni is an Italian maker of high-end zips based in Palazzolo sull'Oglio, near Brescia in Lombardy. Founded in 1983, it has built its reputation on a tight union of craftsmanship and industrial precision — the principles of Italian design applied to a component most makers take for granted. Today it serves the top of the fashion and leather-goods market, counting luxury houses such as Tom Ford among the brands that specify its zips.
What sets Raccagni apart is how much of the zip it makes itself. Beyond the zippers carrying its own name, the group includes Almatex, the tape specialist it brought in-house in 2008 to create a single source for both the zip and the tape it runs on. It added a state-of-the-art dyeing department in 2017 for precise colour control with short lead times, and operates its own galvanic electroplating facility for metal finishes. Even the machinery and moulds are built internally, letting the company adapt products and processes to each client rather than working from a catalogue.
That control has produced zips engineered for specific uses — the Super R (2003), its statement of craftsmanship and technique, and the Simmetrica (2015), designed expressly for leather goods with a double-sliding mechanism suited to bags and cases. Continued investment, from new presses and robots to an automated warehouse, keeps a mid-sized, family-rooted maker producing to the standard its luxury clients demand.
